The final phase of the mini-upgrade for the Town’s water treatment plant (WTP) will begin soon. The replacement of filter feed pumps at a cost of $100,000 was approved by the Town Commissioners at the 13 Jan 20 town public meeting. Once the project is finished, the mini-upgrade to the WTP, will be completed. Total cost will be around $400,000, ALL being local municipal funds paid from the town’s water “capital improvement/impact fees fund”. The work being done by the Town now will enable the present WTP to operate for another 15-20 years instead of the construction of a new WTP which could have cost $2,000,000. TREMENDOUS SAVINGS for the people of PITTSVILLE!
The Town Engineering firm has begun the process of the preliminary engineering study for a new waste water treatment plant (WWTP). This project is being funded by a USDA grant of $22,000 plus $8,000 in local municipal funds to be paid from the town’s sewer (capital improvement/impact fees fund”. The WWTP project will be at least five (5) years in the making.
MDE GRANT/LOAN SUBMISSION
The Town Manager and Town Engineering firm have prepared several grant/loan projects applications to be forwarded to MDE by 31 Jan 20 to be considered for funding. This will include the potential of a new well and water meters.
The Town Commissioners have approved the adoption of the town’s NEW and revised comprehensive plan which will provide the guidance and goals needed for further development of the town well into the future. A “huge” thanks and appreciation to all the members of the Town’s Planning/Zoning Commission for their dedicated work on this and also appreciation to Peter Johnston, the Town’s planning consultant who assisted the members on this project. The next step will be to review and adopt a new comprehensive rezoning of the town plus adoption of a revised zoning code to administer and control further and future development.
