TOWN WATER UPDATE
Hopefully, by now, all our residents are seeing a big improvement in the water being provided by the Town. Meetings have been held with Maryland Department of the Environment, Maryland Rural Water Association, the Town Engineer, and our employees working through the additional measures needed to be done to continue to provide clear, clean water throughout the Town’s system.
An additional meeting was held with a major contractor who provides working equipment for the WTP and further action was undertaken per their recommendation which has tremendously helped us correct and improve the system. We will continue these efforts throughout this process.
Also, the Town is continuing to provide bottled water to our residents available at the Town Hall during normal business hours.
Again, we thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
TOWN WATER UPDATE
14 Jun 19
A meeting was held on June 13 between the Town, representatives from Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and Maryland Rural Water Association (MRWA) to discuss the situation regarding the town’s water issue. Also attending were State Senator Mary Beth Carozza and State Delegate Wayne Hartman. The meeting was held after a tour of the Water Treatment Plant to consider further options and solutions to correct the removal of the iron in the town’s water system.
The Town, MDE, and MRWA are in a “working partnership” to bring all available resources necessary to provide the best possible water to the citizens of Pittsville. The Town is very appreciative of the support we are receiving from MDE and MRWA as well as Senator Carozza and Delegate Hartman.
The Town will be and has been making improvements to the operation and maintenance of the WTP in the short term, but also will be considering what other necessary measures need to be undertaken to insure that the WTP will continue to operate in an efficient and effective manner.
The position of the Town is to provide the highest and best quality of water it can. Tests that have been conducted have indicated that the Town’s WTP is meeting the primary standards of the federal Safe Water Drinking Act.
In the future, the Town Manager will be making weekly updating reports on the Town web page to keep the Pittsville citizenry informed of our progress. Our thanks and appreciation to our citizens for their patience and understanding as we all go through this very stressful time.
TOWNWIDE DITCH CUTTING/CLEARING HAS BEGUN!!!
The Town of Pittsville has engaged a private contractor to begin the town wide ditch cutting/clearing of the storm water ditches throughout town. This project and process was begun at the beginning of June and will continue for the next several months until completed.
During this time, the Town would appreciate all property owners/residents cooperation in removing any structure, equipment, and other obstacle within twenty (20) feet of the edge of the ditches, the right of way (row) easement in order to enable the contractor to properly cut/clear the ditch for maintenance.
Also, the contractor will be operating in a manner that will prioritize the ditches to be maintained so that all can be addressed during this time. For instance, the contractor may be in various areas before completing a specific section. However, as long as the area is cleared of any obstructions, the contractor will be cutting/clearing all ditches.
Anyone requiring further clarification on this very important project undertaken by the Town, should contact the Town Hall. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding as we continue and complete this project.
THE TOWN OF PITTSVILLE HAS RECEIVED A REQUEST FROM THE POSTAL SERVICE ASKING RESIDENTS TO NOT PLACE THEIR TRASH CONTAINERS NEAR THE MAIL BOXES.
THIS IS CAUSING A PROBLEM FOR THE MAIL CARRIERS IN THEIR EFFORT TO DELIVER MAIL TO THE RESIDENTS.
EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2019, THE TOWN OF PITTSVILLE WILL ENTER INTO A NEW CONTRACT WITH CHESAPEAKE WASTE INDUSTRIES.
THE MANAGEMENT FROM CHESAPEAKE WASTE WILL INFORM THE ROUTE DRIVERS NOT TO LEAVE TRASH CONTAINERS IN FRONT OF MAIL BOXES.
THE TOWN OF PITTSVILLE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL PARTIES FOR THEIR COOPERATION IN THIS MATTER.
TOWN WATER UPDATE
The Town Commissioners would like to thank our citizens for their patience and understanding as we continue to proceed with the necessary corrective work needed to be done on the Town’s Water Treatment Plant. At the present time, there are still some equipment parts being repaired while our crew works to provide our citizens with the best service possible. Please be advised that the Town is doing all possible under these circumstances to insure that the water being supplied is safe and reliable.
WATER PLANT UPDATE
The Town Commissioners wanted to present an update to our citizens/residents regarding the recent issues the Town has had regarding the operation of the Water Treatment Plant. The Town has contracted with Shore Environmental Services to provide assistance and also has received technical assistance from the Maryland Rural Water Association and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). After recent mechanical failures that have been repaired the Town’s Water Treatment Plant is operating satisfactory and all consumers should be seeing clearer water being provided to their homes.
The Town appreciates the concerns voiced by our citizens and should anyone have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the Town Manager at 410-835-8872.
IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE & WARNING!!!
The Town Commissioners and the Town’s Sanitary Sewer Department are reminding ALL town residents using the sewer system to desist and refrain from disposing of “handy wipes” into the town’s sewer system. The “handy wipes” clog up the system and cause mechanical problems at the sewer pumping stations which require expensive maintenance.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
